WISCONSIN

In the 2024 general election in Wisconsin, the state once again took center-stage as a pivotal swing state, delivering a razor-thin victory for Donald J. Trump and his running mate JD Vance, who secured the state’s 10 electoral votes with about 49.6% of the vote compared to Kamala Harris’s roughly 48.7%.

Although the margin—approximately 0.9 points—was extraordinarily small, this win marked the first time a Republican candidate captured Wisconsin twice.

At the same time, Wisconsin voters re-elected Tammy Baldwin (D) to the U.S. Senate in a tight contest, winning by a similarly narrow margin and thereby preserving a key Democratic seat despite the state’s tilt toward the GOP at the presidential level.

All eight U.S. House seats were contested and electoral map remained unchanged with Republicans holding six and Democrats two, though the Republican party garnered just over 51% of the vote and the Democrats nearly 48%—reflecting modest gains for the Republicans in the House popular vote.

On the state legislative side, the Republicans retained their majority in the State Assembly with 54 of 99 seats after Democrats captured 10 seats, and in the State Senate Republicans held an 18-15 margin following Democratic gains in targeted races.

Analysis of ward-level returns shows that the state’s shift toward Republicans was broad across nearly all counties and precincts, though more modest in magnitude than in some other parts of the country.

In short, Wisconsin maintained its reputation as a fiercely competitive state—and 2024 showed Republicans gaining a narrow edge at the top of the ticket while Democrats managed to hold key down-ballot races, underscoring a highly split and polarized electorate.
